Lesson 7.2 · 4:31

Skills: a recipe loaded when needed

Goal: Turn a procedure you repeat into a skill the agent picks up only when the task matches.

Try it

  1. In your practice-app folder, create .opencode/skills/review-app/SKILL.md and paste in the starter review-app skill from the course pack.
  2. Make one small change with OpenCode (e.g. reword the Submit button). Don't save a point yet.
  3. Start a fresh session and send:
Load the review-app skill. Review the current change against PROJECT-BRIEF.md and TEST-MATRIX.md. Inspect the diff, run relevant available checks, and report observations with evidence. Do not edit code or deploy. Identify anything you could not verify.

You're done when OpenCode shows that it loaded review-app and gives a report that separates "checked and passed" from "could not verify", and no files were changed by the review.

Recap

  • A skill is a recipe in a file, loaded only when the task matches.
  • Model = brain. AGENTS.md = always-on rules. Skill = on-demand procedure.
  • Project skills live in .opencode/skills/<name>/SKILL.md, and the description says when to use it.

Next lesson (7.3): run the skill on a second change, find what it missed, and improve the recipe.
