Lesson 7.1 · 3:57

Always-on project rules

Goal: Write house rules once in `AGENTS.md`, so every session starts knowing them.

Try it

  1. In your practice-app folder, create AGENTS.md with 5 house rules (start from the example and make it yours).
  2. Quit OpenCode and start it again in that folder, so a fresh session reads the file.
  3. Ask: What are the house rules for this project? Then ask for a small change, such as "make the Submit button green".

You're done when OpenCode lists your rules back without you pasting them, and you've seen it follow at least one (for example, it shows a plan and waits). If it ignored a rule, rewrite that rule more concretely and try again.

Recap

  • AGENTS.md is house rules the harness puts in context every session.
  • Keep it short, true for every task, and checkable.
  • Rules nudge. Permissions enforce. Use both.

Next lesson (7.2): skills, the instructions that load only when a task needs them.
