Lesson 5.5 · 3:47
Fixed means checked twice
Goal: Prove a fix is real by repeating the original check and one nearby check, and know how to go back if it isn't.
Try it
Use the bug version you fixed in 5.4.
- Ask OpenCode to start the app (
node serve.mjs) and open it in your browser. - Check 1: follow your steps to reproduce exactly. Write the result in
BUG-REPORT.mdunder Original reproduction after repair. - Check 2: submit a second request, refresh, mark one done, refresh again. Write the result under Adjacent behaviour checked.
- Both pass → make a new save point. Either fails → restore your save point and write down what you saw.
- Read your whole bug report top to bottom. It now tells a full story: expected, observed, steps, cause, diff, two checks.
You're done when both checks are written with what you actually saw, and you've either made a new save point or restored the old one.
Recap
- "Fixed" is a claim. Repeating the steps is the proof.
- Check the original bug and something nearby, to catch a regression.
- Fails → restore the save point and re-diagnose. Passes → new save point.
Next lesson (6.1): testing more than the one path that works. Blank inputs, odd inputs and refreshes.
