Lesson 5.4 · 4:01

Read what changed

Goal: Read a diff so you know exactly what the agent changed, and reject a "fix" that only hides the problem.

Try it

Use your bug version and the cause you wrote in 5.3.

  1. Look at the flawed diff above. In your BUG-REPORT.md, under Diff review, write one sentence on why you reject it.
  2. In OpenCode (build mode, ask-first still on), send:
Fix the cause in BUG-REPORT.md with the smallest possible change.
Do not clear storage or replace the app. Show me the diff before editing.
  1. When OpenCode asks to edit, read the diff before answering. Check: how many lines changed? Does it match your cause? Does anything get deleted?
  2. If it passes both questions, approve. If not, deny and say why.
  3. Under Diff review, write one sentence about the diff you approved.

You're done when your bug report rejects the flawed diff in one sentence, and you can explain the diff you approved in one sentence. Don't test the fix yet. That's next lesson.

Recap

  • A diff shows what changed: − removed, + added.
  • Read the diff at the permission prompt, every time.
  • Reject any fix that doesn't match the cause, or that deletes things that used to work.

Next lesson (5.5): prove the fix is real by checking it twice, including something nearby.
